What Causes Yellow Teeth?

There are many different factors that come into play when it comes to yellow teeth. Here are a few of the most common causes:

Diet: Certain foods that are high in tannins, such as red wine, are potential causes of yellow teeth. Coffee, soda, wine, and tea get into the enamel of your tooth causing long-term discoloration.

Smoking: Smoking is one of the main causes of yellow teeth. Smokers can improve their overall health and yellow teeth by quitting smoking, following a proper oral care routine twice a day, and occasionally using teeth whitening products.

Illness: Certain medications and medical conditions can cause yellow teeth. Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy may develop stained teeth. Some prescription medications for asthma and high blood pressure can also do the trick.

Poor Oral Hygiene: Poor Oral hygiene is one of the causes of yellow teeth, but even the most expensive brushes and floss can still develop discolored teeth. This typically occurs simply with age.

Be sure to let your dentist know if you are interested in whiter teeth. There are many different whitening options including bleach trays, strips, mouthwashes, and in-office whitenings.
