What the video covers

  1. Here's what to expect when you get a root canal.
  2. Underneath the enamel, each tooth has soft tissue called the pulp. It runs down through narrow canals inside the roots.
  3. When deep decay or a crack lets bacteria reach the pulp, it can become infected and painful. A root canal clears out that infection and saves the tooth.
  4. First, we'll numb the area so you stay comfortable. You may feel some pressure, but you shouldn't feel any pain.
  5. Through a small opening, we remove the infected pulp, then carefully clean and shape each canal.
  6. Next, the canals are filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha, and the opening is sealed.
  7. Most back teeth get a crown afterward, to keep the treated tooth strong and protected.
  8. Your tooth may feel tender for a few days. Avoid chewing hard foods on it until it's fully restored, and keep brushing, flossing, and your follow-up visit.
  9. If you have any questions along the way, just ask. Your dental team is always happy to help.
